Waikato District Council is reinforcing the ban on dogs in Raglan’s central business area and the Kopua Domain this summer. Dog owners can be fined $300 for dogs on or off the lead in these areas.

General Manager Regulatory, Nath Pritchard says that the actions of some dog owners in the past necessitated the ban but there are 17 areas in the district where dogs can be off the lead, including Raglan’s beaches and some reserves.
“We have extensive areas in Raglan where dogs can be off the lead, including Ngaranui and Ocean beaches.

“It’s unfortunate the past actions of some irresponsible dog owners has required action from the Council, but dog owners can still enjoy exercising their dogs in many parts of Raglan, we just ask that they are responsible,” he said.
Many of the dogs brought into the banned areas are owned by visitors. To ensure the message is visible, Council has increased signage in the affected areas and Animal Control Officers will be on duty throughout the holiday period to enforce the ban.
