New Chair of Museums Trust - Quentin Hay

 

Prominent Wellington lawyer Quentin Hay has been appointed Chair of the Wellington Museums Trust.

The Trust operates City Gallery, the Museum of Wellington City and Sea, the Cable Car Museum, Capital E, Carter Observatory, the Colonial Cottage Museum and the New Zealand Cricket Museum under a management agreement. Mr Hay's appointment was approved at December's City Council meeting.

Mayor Celia Wade-Brown has welcomed the appointment. "Quentin has a strong and well-developed interest in the arts including, in particular, the visual and performance arts. His background stands him in good stead to lead one of the City Council's most important and high-profile organisations."

Mr Hay is a senior lawyer who practises as a commercial barrister, and was formerly a partner at Bell Gully. His practice has included a diverse range of commercial activities, both international and domestic.

He was, for a number of years, the co-chair of the New Zealand Chamber Orchestra. He also has extensive governance experience, as both an advisor and board member.

Mr Hay has been a Trustee of the Museums Trust since January 2007. He replaces Viv Beck as Chair of the Trust.

Ms Beck has served as a Trustee for six years - and Mayor Wade-Brown paid tribute to her service. "Viv can be satisfied that the Trust is in very good shape and has continued to make an important contribution to the city's standing as the arts and cultural capital of New Zealand. During her tenure, the Trust continued to build its reputation for excellent visitor experiences resulting in increased visitor numbers and high customer satisfaction."
