Fatal vehicle crash - State Highway 2 Masterton

Masterton Police and the Police serious crash team are investigating a fatal vehicle crash which occurred at 11.45pm Wednesday night, on State Highway 2 North of Masterton.

A single vehicle with four occupants crashed into a power pole near the intersection of Mikimiki Road and State Highway 2 - after the driver lost control.

A female passenger was thrown from the vehicle and was killed instantly.

Two other occupants of the vehicle were critically injured.

The alleged driver of the vehicle received minor injuries.

A decision on charges is yet to be made - as Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the cause of the crash.

Vehicles are being diverted along Opaki Kaiparoro Road while the serious crash team conduct a scene examination. The diversions are expected to be in place until mid-morning Thursday.

The name of the deceased will be released once next of kin have been notified, which is expected to be later in the morning on Thursday.
