MASTERTON

Diversions put in place shortly after a crash around midnight, 10 kilometres north of Masterton, have now been lifted.

A 23 year old female passenger, from Masterton, was killed instantly after the car hit a power pole, near the intersection of State Highway 2 and Mikimiki Road at 11:45pm last night.

A 20 year old male passenger and a 21 year old female passenger are both in Masterton Hospital. The 20 year old male is in a serious condition.

The 21 year-old male driver escaped without injury.

Acting Wairarapa Area Commander, Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen says the serious crash team is continuing their investigation and enquiries also continue today as to whether alcohol and/or speed were a factor in last night's crash.

The name of the deceased 23 year old female will not be released until all next of kin have been advised.
