Two pedestrians hit in Queenstown

QUEENSTOWN

At around midnight this morning ( Friday 14/01/2011), Police were notified of a crash on Gorge Road, Queenstown, involving a vehicle which crossed the centre line, mounted the footpath and struck two pedestrians.

A third pedestrian narrowly escaped being hit.

The driver failed to stop at the scene.

The offending vehicle is described as a Toyota Estima coloured silver.

The female and male victims, both 24 years of age, were taken to Lakes District Hospital with moderate injuries. They were later transferred to Southland Hospital.

The driver of the offending vehicle was later located and spoken to. He was processed for driving with an excess breath alcohol level.

A 30 year old man has been charged with 2 charges of Driving with Excess Breath Alcohol Causing Injury and also Failing to Stop and Ascertain Injury.

He is due to appear in the Queenstown District Court on 24th January 2011.

Police are seeking any witnesses to the hit and run, and also anyone who may have seen the vehicle prior to or after the incident who have not yet been spoken to, to please contact the Queenstown Police on (03) 4411600
