EIGHT submissions were received by the Manawatu District and Palmerston North City Councils on a proposal involving Longburn’s wastewater connection.

The proposal follows a request by MDC for agreement to convey wastewater from Longburn via the existing pipeline to PNCC’s wastewater treatment plant.

Individuals, property developers, real estate firms and other interested parties were among those who presented submissions during the five-week public consultation period.

Two of the submitters will speak to their submissions when they are heard by the joint MDC-PNCC Strategic Planning Committee at its meeting in Feilding on Wednesday, March 2. The committee’s decision will then be discussed by the two councils for possible ratification.

As part of the proposal, MDC intends to take over the obligations of Water Enviro Services Ltd (currently in liquidation) and acquire the wastewater infrastructure in the Longburn industrial area.

The agreement would mean that MDC no longer needed to discharge the Longburn residential area’s wastewater directly into the Manawatu River from the existing treatment ponds.
