WELLINGTON CITY

Local Wellington boy, Stephen Uelese, experienced life in the fast lane recently, thanks to Instant Finance and the Make-a-Wish organisation.

Stephen, who suffers from leukaemia, has been waiting for his main wish – to travel to the Gold Coast with his family and ‘not to have to worry about blood counts’ – for nearly two years, as he hasn’t been well enough for it to proceed.

So in the meantime, Instant Finance and Make-a-Wish organised something a bit closer to home... a dream day out with some of the hottest custom made cars and hot rods in town as well as American hearses, ambulances and cars of every US make and model at the Moonshine American Car Day at Trentham Racecourse on Sunday 6 February 2011.

Stephen, along with his three year old brother and parents, were treated as VIP guests for the day, including transport to the event in a classic car, honorary membership of the Moonshine Rod and Custom Club and getting the opportunity to cruise in some of the hottest cars in town.

Stephen’s parents, Rob and Marika, commented: “Stephen has been looking forward to the Gold Coast trip for over two years and the dream of his wish coming true has helped keep him focused on the good things that will come after the discomfort and anguish of his treatment programme.

“The great news is that Stephen’s treatment came to an end in Iate November 2010 and his doctors have now deemed him well enough for his dream trip to the Gold Coast to continue sometime early in 2011.”

Local Instant Finance spokesperson, Ruth Dawson, said: “We are so proud to be involved with Make-a-Wish and to help make this dream day out come true for Stephen and his family. All the staff from the Porirua branch have been following Stephen’s progress and it was wonderful to share in his big day on Sunday”.
