MARLBOROUGH

Toi Toi Brookdale Reserve Pinot Gris 2010 has been awarded a Blue-Gold Medal and has
been selected as one of the Top 100 wines of the Sydney International Wine Competition 2011,
which held its 30th Anniversary Award Ceremony and Presentation Banquet last Saturday, 26
February, at Sydney’s Shangri La Hotel.

The Sydney International Wine Competition is judged with food and this year the Pinot Gris
was tasted with delicate Crab Rice Paper Rolls. “Our strategy is to make quality food friendly
wines”, says Kevin Joyce, one of Toi Toi’s principals, “so we are extremely gratied that the
wines present so well with food.”

Brent Marris from Marlborough was one of the show’s judges and commented as follows:
“Good aromatics of pear and rose petal. Acid backbone and reasonable weight on the mid
palate. Fresh and lively. It worked well with the dish. It stayed fresh and lively but with more
texture.”

Dr Ken Dobler of NSW’s Hunter Valley, awarded “Taster of the Year” in 2004 and 2007, had
this to say about the wine: “Rich tropical fruit aromas on the nose. Restrained avours of stone
fruit apparent on the palate and a lovely cleansing acidity with a good line of avour. This more
restrained style of Pinot Gris was well suited to food.”

The Brookdale Reserve Pinot Gris is a single vineyard wine grown on the company’s own
Brookdale vineyard at the head of Brooky Rd in the Omaka Valley of Marlborough. “The unique
micro climate and Renwick soils of this vineyard is producing stunning Pinot Gris and Sauvignon
Blanc” says Toi Toi’s joint principal Andrew Bonner. “ Last year it won a Highly Commended
medal from the same international wine show and four stars from Michael Cooper from it’s
rst vintage, so we are very pleased”.

Toi Toi Marlborough Riesling 2010 was awarded Highly Commended status at the same show.
This wine was judged with Lime & Basil Mousse and Sauteed Scallops. Judge Xenia Irwin, a
Master of Wine from the UK noted, “ Light, delicate orange blossom nose. Delicate Germanic
oral style. Just off dry, balanced with bright acids. Food enlivens the acidity and brings forward
the orality. A good food match.”

These accolades follow from the Gold Medal and Trophy for Champion Riesling Toi Toi Wines
received at the New Zealand International Wine Show in 2009 and a number of other awards
and Four Star reviews in the period since, that have helped to cement the Toi Toi brand’s
reputation for consistent quality and over delivery at a price point.

With an already established reputation as a producer of quality Riesling, perhaps the most noble
of white wines, this Blue-Gold Medal and selection for the Top 100 wines of the show adds Pinot
Gris to the growing number of varieties for which the Toi Toi team can feel justiably proud.

Kevin Joyce commented, “We have been one of New Zealand’s Top 50 wine producers in terms
of volume for some time now and being from Marlborough, Sauvignon Blanc is the mainstay of
our range - so to be recognised at this level for the quality of both our Pinot Gris from our own
Brookdale vineyard and for our Rielsing, is really gratifying. It clearly shows that we can be both
big and beautiful and that we are successfully delivering on our promise of top quality, availability
and value for money in the bottle!”
