Poverty - Who gives a damn? Peta Karalus, Angeline Greensill, Julie Hardaker, Leafa Wilson, Sue Moroney, Sally Christie ... are just some of the impassioned women who do. They will be speaking Tuesday, March 8th at Garden Place Hamilton between 11.30am and 1.30pm.

“We believe there is too much silence about the issues of poverty and inequality. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to raise the voice of women about issues that impact on the wellbeing of our communities and families both locally and globally” says Rose Black, Poverty Action Waikato.

The latest Welfare Working Group report recommends a more punitive approach to the treatment of women who receive the domestic purposes benefit, with stricter work requirements and harsh penalties for not meeting work test requirements and parenting obligations.

“Women and children are already struggling in the face of limited resources and rising prices for basic every day needs. We can’t afford to be silent on issues of poverty. Women generally prioritise their children when considering their spending. When we support women, we support our children. ”

Come and listen to women speak to the question Poverty, why should we give a damn? March 8th, Garden Place, 11.30-1.30pm.
