Massey families will be out in force for their big event of the year, Te Raa Mokopuna at Moire Park on Saturday 26 March. This year’s event coincides with Neighbours Day, a national campaign highlighting the positive benefits of being neighbourly. Te Raa Mokopuna organisers are encouraging people to invite their neighbours to enjoy the event together – a “bring a neighbour” challenge.

Te Raa Mokopuna is a great opportunity to enjoy a free family fun day out in your own backyard. Not only will there be a multitude of agencies showcasing their services to local people, a range of fun activities for young and older people will also be available. From face-painting, horse rides and bouncy castles for the kids, to music, sporting challenges, arts and crafts, womens pampering, a display of the new Huruhuru Bridge artwork and even a mass zumba demonstration! There will be lots of exciting giveaways and prize draws as well.

“We are excited to have over 65 organisations and groups involved,” says Linda Shaw from Massey Matters, “it’s a great opportunity to see what is available on your doorstep and many people have been astonished to learn what is happening in our community.”

One of the most exciting additions to this year’s event is the Top Town Challenge. Get together a team of 6 friends, family or neighbours and register right away. We have some awesome prizes to be won, but be prepared to get wet and maybe a bit messy! To register early, email your details to Linda.shaw@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz or phone 832 0431.

YMCA Massey will be running a 3 on 3 basketball competition. You can sign up on the day as a team or as an individual. Top player on the day will win a signed NZ Breakers ball.

The stage will have a full programme of entertainment, including amazing local cultural groups such as Tamaiti Tu Junior Kapahaka (whose youngest member is only 7 weeks old!) and rising RnB star Erakah who won Best Pacific Female Artist Award at last years Pacific Music Awards.

So slap on a hat and sunscreen and head to Moire Park from 10am to enjoy the full day. There will be plenty of parking available, bring a picnic or enjoy some of the yummy food on offer.
