Road closures planned to repair damage from last storm.

Some of the Peninsula's northern roads will be closed for repairs from this week to repair damage caused by Cyclone Wilma.

TCDC's Roading Manager Matt Bush says Port Charles, Tuateawa and Kennedy Bay Roads will be closed to build retaining walls and make the roads more secure.

The roads and their closure times are:

  • Kennedy Bay Road, 7.3 kilometres from the Colville Road intersection, closed from now until 11 April 2011. The road will open 15 minutes on the hour every hour between 8am and 6pm and will be open between 6pm and 8am.
  • Tuateawa Road, 50 metres south of Rabarts Road, closed from 1 April 2011 to 20 April 2011. The road will open 15 minutes on the hour every hour between 8am and 6pm and will be open between 6pm and 8am.
  • Tuateawa Road, 2 kilometres south of Little Bay Drive, closed from 18 April 2011 to 13 May 2011. No access will be available through this site during this period. Alternative access will be available via Colville Road.
  • Port Charles Road, 200 metres south of Big Sandy Bay, closed from 16 May 2011 to 27 May 2011. Vehicles will not be able to get to Big Sandy or Stony Bay during this period.

The closure schedule has been planned to reduce the period of time motorists will be delayed. All roads up to the closure locations will remain open and alternative access is available for all sites except the Port Charles Road site.

Due to the presence of construction machinery, motorists are also advised to be extra cautious when travelling these roads during this period.

"Residents north of the Port Charles site are advised to leave a vehicle on the south side of the repair site to enable access," Mr Busch said, adding, "Council would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience while the repair work is being completed."
