In advance of the 1 April touchdown of AirAsia’s inaugural flight at Christchurch, the Malaysia-based carrier announced today it has received final approvals from the Ministry of Transport and CAA to operate into New Zealand.

“Securing a regulatory license is a long but important process,” says CEO Azran Osman-Rani. “We express our continued appreciation to the New Zealand Government for the support being provided to facilitate our entry into New Zealand.”

Despite the 22 February quake, Osman-Rani says AirAsia has been unwavering in its decision to introduce New Zealand to its 139-destination regional and international network.

“More so than ever, the South Island deserves our support. Ticket sales following our initial discount fare launch in December last year proved to be the most popular launch in the airline’s history.

“We remain 100 per cent committed to the destination and look forward to getting New Zealanders onboard and introducing them to the travel possibilities achievable through our impressive network.”
