Inspector Karl Wright-St Clair, the Acting Area Commander for Western Bay Police, says he has now had the opportunity to review the incident that led to the arrest of a prominent New Zealand musician in a Tauranga bar in the early hours of Sunday morning, 10 April.

Inspector Wright-St Clair says that while he appreciates that the musician has yet to appear on court, on the face of the facts as he knew them to be, he is confident his staff acted professionally and appropriately.

"It is a difficult job policing licensed premises in the early hours of the morning when most of the community are home in bed. On this occasion, I believe Police have acted appropriately and I support their actions in arresting the musician."

Police would be making no further comment until after the musician had appeared in the Tauranga District Court on Friday.
