Police investigation continues into six month old baby's injuries
Waikato Police are continuing their investigation into injuries suffered by a six month old baby girl at Ngaruawahia. The child was admitted to Waikato hospital late yesterday afternoon and was transferred to Auckland's Starship hospital overnight where she remains in a critical condition.
The officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene, says Police have commenced a scene examination Ngaruawahia house today.
"It is expected that this will take some time to complete. We are at the very early stages of this investigation, and as with any situation of this kind, it is absolutely vital that we take the time that is required to complete every element of the investigation thoroughly.
"Police are working closely with CYF and Medical specialists to understand what has happened to the baby girl. The Police investigators are keeping an open mind as they work through the investigative process."
Detective Senior Sergeant Greene says 12 Police staff are currently working on the inquiry. A team from ESR is also involved.
Police will be making no further comment today. A further media update will be provided before 12 noon tomorrow, Thursday 28 April.
