Update on Tumunui Rd investigation

A Police investigation is continuing into the discovery of a body in a burning car just south of Rotorua yesterday.

The officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Loper, says a scene examination is continuing at the site today, which is in a small forestry block on a rural property off Tumunui Rd.

He says Police expect to remove the body from the scene today. It will be transported to Auckland where a post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow.

Detective Senior Sergeant Loper says at this stage, Police are still treating the death as suspicious, but that they are keeping an open mind as to all possible scenarios that may be involved.

A media update may be provided tomorrow. There will be no further update or comment from Police today.
