Exhibition and Unveiling

  • The Sneetches 50th Anniversary Print
  • Image and Paper Size: 55" x 26"

Last April The Art of Dr Seuss visited Auckland and over a period of 10 days thousands visited the exhibition. The demand for an encore show has been phenomenal, so when the decision to unveil the 50th Anniversary Of The Sneetches was discussed Auckland was first in line.

One of Dr. Seuss’s wonderfully rich stories is the unforgettable tale of The Sneetches—some with stars on their bellies and some without. It is this star, or lack of it, that brilliantly teaches children about social injustice and the senselessness of discrimination. A testament to the genius of this book came in 1998 when NATO translated The Sneetches and Other Stories into Serbo-Croatian and distributed it to 500,000 children in Bosnia and Herzegovina as art of an information campaign to help encourage racial tolerance.

Now, on the eve of The Sneetches and Other Stories Golden Anniversary, we proudly announce The Sneetches — 50th Anniversary print. Re-created in the same large-scale format as the previous four 50th anniversary serigraphs —Ted’s Cat, Grinch at Mt. Crumpit, King of the Pond, and Green Eggs and Ham. The Sneetches is similarly presented in a small edition of 295 Arabic Numbers.

There will be a New Zealand unveiling at The Lonely Dog Gallery, 20 Customs Street East, Britomart Auckland on Thursday May 19th 6.00 – 8.00 pm. Furthermore a selection of 70 authorised estate editions including pieces from the Secret Art Collection, Unorthodox Taxidermy, Illustrations and Archival Collection will exhibit for a limited time only from the 19th to the 29th May with many of the works available for sale
