BLENHEIM

Decisions are looming on the blueprint for the future growth and development of Blenheim and its outlying settlements as the Marlborough District Council considers the final shape of the Southern Marlborough Urban Growth and Development Strategy.

With assistance from professional urban designers, Urbanism+ Ltd, the council has been working with the community since early 2009 to produce an urban design strategy to guide future council planning decisions.

The strategy will address everything from housing expansion, large format retailing, landscaping and recreational spaces to road design and traffic speed. The strategy will apply to Blenheim and the townships of Renwick and Wairau Valley, Grovetown and Spring Creek, Tua Marina and Rarangi, Seddon and Ward.

The public is invited to attend the meetings at the Council Chambers where final decisions will be made. The meetings will be held on April 15 and 29 and on May 13 and 27, all meetings beginning at 9.00 am.

The issues will be dealt with in the following sequence:

  • Residential and industrial growth: strategic plan and decisions on proposed sites for growth in all of the settlements.
  • Amenity issues, dealing with townships in the following order: Wairau Valley, Grovetown, Spring Creek, Tua Marina, Rarangi, Seddon, Ward, Blenheim.

Information from the meetings will be available on the council website under the Growing Marlborough section.
