DNA testing identifies body found in burning car

DNA testing has now confirmed the identity of a woman whose body was discovered in a burning car off Tumunui Rd, just south of Rotorua, on Saturday April 30.

The officer in charge of the Police investigation into the incident, Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Loper, says the DNA testing has confirmed the woman to be an Auckland resident, who had been reported missing by friends and family.

Detective Senior Sergeant Loper says the investigation has determined that there were no suspicious circumstances involved in the death, and the case has now been referred to the Coroner.

Police will be making no further comment.
