Flood warning for lower Avon and Heathcote rivers

A high tide is expected in the Lower Avon River and Lower Heathcote River at 5pm today (Monday 16 May).

A tide of 10.6 metres to the CCC Datum (1.5 metres above mean sea level) may be experienced. It is expected to cause street flooding in some areas, but there is no expectation of danger to people or property.

Effects on roads

The tide is expected to cause street flooding in:

  • New Brighton Road between Palmers Road and Pages Road
  • Avonside Drive between Gayhurst Road and Swanns Road
  • Hulverstone Drive
  • Clarendon Terrace
  • Richardson Terrace

A detour is likely to be put in place around the Palmers Road to Pages Road section of New Brighton Road between 4pm and 6pm today.

Effects to stop banks

Temporary stop banks on the Avon River are at a level of 10.8 metres. Today’s tide is not expected to affect the stop banks, and there is no expectation of danger to people and property
