Letters and emails have poured in to the council during the last week with ratepayers keen to have their say on the council’s spending plans for the year ahead.

Mayor Alistair Sowman says it’s a fantastic response this year, showing Marlborough people are taking a keen interest in their region.

“Submissions help councillors reach decisions about priorities for the services and facilities we want here in the years ahead. Councillors are elected to be the decision-makers for the region but we need to know what people are thinking.”

A large percentage of the written submissions relate to the future of the Civic Theatre.

Those who wish to speak directly to councillors on their submission will have the opportunity to do that at hearings early next month – June 7, 8 and 9 – before councillors get down to the job of considering the views that have been expressed.

Council signs off on its final decisions on June 30.
