Lower Hutt Police need assistance from the public to help locate two sets of body armour, which were misplaced at the weekend.

Relieving Lower Hutt Area Commander Inspector Mike Hill says a patrol vehicle was attending an incident late on Saturday night, where firearms were seized and secured in the boot of the patrol vehicle, to be transported back to the station.

"The officers had to empty the contents of the boot of the patrol vehicle to safely store the seized firearms. As they have put items back into the boot, two sets of bullet proof body armour have been left in St James Grove in Boulcott."

Inspector Mike Hill says, "I am really disappointed that that this unfortunate incident has occurred. We have begun an investigation into it and have notified the IPCA."

Police would like to hear from anyone in the Boulcott area who may have collected the discarded body armour.

"I urge anyone who may have the body armour to either contact us on (04) 560 2600 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
