SITUATION UPDATE

At this stage, no problems have been reported in any of the major river schemes or drainage districts.

Council staff continue to keep a close watch on the weather situation and field crews are on standby to respond to any rivers and drainage issues that may arise throughout the night.

The Waimana, Waioeka and Mangorewa Rivers have now gone through their first warning levels with farmers being notified with precautionary alerts earlier today.

Whakatāne District Harbour Superintendent has moved vessels from their river moorings to the wharf as the Whakatāne River continues to rise with high tide at 0200hrs Friday morning.

Updated approximate rainfall totals in the last 24hours are:
Western Bay 50mm
Rotorua Lakes 90mm
Whakatāne 60mm
Eastern Bay 50-150mm


The public should be aware that the weather system may bring periods of heavy rain during the next 24 hours. Caution should be taken while driving as slips and surface flooding may occur.
