Wairarapa Police are investigating the aggravated robbery of Eastside Superstore in Colombo Road, Masterton Thursday night.

Detective Sergeant Bill Van Woerkom of the Wairarapa CIB says shortly before 7pm last night a man, with his face concealed, entered the dairy armed with a screwdriver and demanded cash and tobacco from the two owners present.

"The offender grabbed an amount of tobacco and put it into a small backpack and then punched one of the owners in the face before leaving the dairy and heading north along Colombo Street and into Worksop Road, heading west."

Detective Sergeant Van Woerkom says the dairy owners were left shaken after the frightening incident.

"We are looking for witnesses who may have seen the offender in the area at the time. In particular, we'd like to speak to a woman who pulled up outside the dairy as the offender was fleeing. This woman was in a red car and comforted the store owners before Police arrived."

The offender was wearing dark clothing, was of slim build and was about 5 foot 6 to 5 foot 8 in height.

Anyone with any information should contact Wairarapa Police immediately on (06) 370 0300 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
