Another title for talented teen

New Zealand junior squash player Megan Craig has won her second successive title in as many weeks in Malaysia.

Craig, 18 from Marlborough beat Malaysia’s Tan Yan Xin who has already been ranked inside the world top 70 professional players in four games 11-3 11-5 9-11 11-5 in the under 19 final of the Penang Junior Open in Malaysia.

The win holds Craig in good stead to be selected as the top player for the New Zealand junior team as it heads to the world junior championships in Boston next month. The side is named after the Auckland juniors on June 18-19

Palmerston North’s Daniel Fourie finished the under 19 tournament in fifth place while Ellie Epke(Auckland), 13 was a beaten finalist in the tournaments under 15 section. She was defeated by local, Jadeleen Lee in the final 11-8, 7-11 11-5 12-10.

Abbie Palmer(Auckland) finished fourth in the under 15 tournament.

Last week Craig won the under 19 title at the Junior All-Star tournament in Selangor, Malaysia and Epke the under 15 title at the same event.
