Serious Injury Crash - Ngatai Road - 17 June 2011 5:30am

At about 5.30am on Friday 17 June 2011 Tauranga Police attended a serious crash on Ngatai Road, Tauranga.

A Honda motor vehicle travelling towards Tauranga on Ngatai Road crossed the centre line and collided with a concrete power pole. The power pole snapped and fell on top of the vehicle trapping one of the four occupants.

Two occupants from the Honda were taken to Tauranga Hospital for treatment. One was later discharged with minor injuries, the other remains in the high dependency unit with serious injuries.

All of the occupants were in the late teens and early 20's.

Preliminary indications are that speed is a contributing factor in this crash.

A Police Crash Analyst attended the scene and enquiries are continuing.
