One Title One Finalist For Kiwis In South Australia

AUCKLAND

Auckland squash player Kashif Shuja has won the $10,000 South Australian Open in Adelaide in a marathon battle over local Mike Corren.

The 71 minute contest went the full distance on the scoreboard with a 11-7 4-11 13-15 11-5 12-10 victory to the Kiwi for his 10th career title.

“I knew it was going to be very hard even though he had a tough semi. I was just pleased to get home. There was nothing between us,” said Shuja.

In the semifinals Shuja who will play for Remuera in this weekend’s Cousins Shield national provincial club competition held at Herne Bay had defeated Wellington’s Evan Williams 11-8 11-6 11-7.

Rotorura’s Amanda Landers-Murphy reached the final of the women’s draw before losing to Australian Melody Francis in four games 5-11 11-9 11-5 15-13 in 41 minutes.
