Water supply was restored to Christchurch homes this week – if you do not have water supply to your house please contact the Christchurch City Council as this likely means there is an isolated problem in your street and we can help resolve this quickly if you let us know

Water supply was returned last weekend to almost all homes and the boil water notice lifted on Monday. However, there may still be a problem with water pipes on isolated streets or parts of streets.

If your home or business does not have water, please report this as soon as possible to the Council by calling (03) 941 8999 or 0800 800 169 or filling in the “No Water” notification form online at http://nowater.ccc.govt.nz/.

The Council is responding to these issues within 24 hours, with around 150 people lodging calls or filling out the form so far this week.

Before doing this please check that the water supply valve at the street boundary (the toby) is turned on and whether or not your neighbours have water.
If you have leaks within your property boundary you will need to make your own arrangements for a plumber to make a permanent repair to them. The Earthquake Commission (EQC) is able to help with payments up to $2000 through the emergency works grant.

Residents must continue to conserve water across the city. There is a total ban on watering gardens. The Council will advise when this ban is lifted.

The reticulated water supply – the water that you get from your tap – has been tested thoroughly and is safe to drink.

If you are taking water from wells or water tanks, please continue to boil it before drinking.

Emergency water tanks will start to be withdrawn from areas over the next week or so. In areas where there are “No Water” notices coming through, emergency tanks will remain until those properties have water restored.
