Woman killed by falling rocks whilst walking dogs on Rothesay Bay Beach

NORTH SHORE CITY

At about 1pm on the 1st July 2011 a 44 year old Murrays Bay resident walking her two dogs on the beach under the cliffs at Rothesay Bay was hit and killed by rocks falling from the cliff.  The two dogs were later found uninjured.

Police continue to do enquiries in relation to this incident, which is to be referred to the Coroner.

Members of the public need to be aware of the dangers of rocks falling in the area.  The Council has been informed and engineers are to attend and examine the area.

Police are seeking for witnesses and residents who may have information and they can contact Detective Sergeant Craig McCormack of the North Shore Police.  (DDI 477 5034)

Note: the Scene is approximately 300metres South from the Rothesay Bay beach, under the cliffs, which would be 100 metres in height.
