Taupō Civil Defence has had no reports of damage from an earthquake centred 30kms west of Taupō this afternoon.

A preliminary report from GNS science shows that the earthquake struck at 3.36pm this afternoon at a focal depth of 150kms and has been widely felt throughout the North and South Islands.

Taupō Emergency Manager Phil Parker says at this depth the quake should have had no effect on property. “We have not had any reports of damage so far, but many have reported feeling a small tremor. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
