St Bede’s College Cricket Club and Marist Harewood Cricket Club in Christchurch have jointly appointed Lance Cairns as Director of Cricket Coaching.

The commitments will be shared evenly between the secondary school and cricket club with responsibilities including recruitment, mentoring and overall preparation of teams.

Cairns, who played 43 Tests and 78 One Day Internationals for New Zealand, has been involved in youth cricket for a number of years and recently served on the BLACKCAPS National Section Panel.

Peter Boock from the Marist Harewood Cricket Club said he was delighted that a cricket person with Cairn’s depth of experience and expertise was appointed to the new role.

“Lance's interest and knowledge of youth scouting and development of their talent is impressive as is history of success with his involvement in the selection of the New Zealand Under 19 team,” said Boock.

“This is of particular interest to St Bede's and also fits in with MHCC's objectives to develop our club as the leading premier and junior club in Christchurch.”

The appointment is for one year and Cairns will move to Christchurch in August to begin the role.
