Stabbing victim's injuries not life threatening

The victim of an alleged stabbing near Levin today is in Palmerston North Hospital’s intensive care unit as police continue their investigations into the incident

Detective Sergeant Sarn Paroli, Levin Police, said the 34-year-old Foxton man’s injuries are non life threatening. He had surgery this morning and is scheduled for more surgery overnight.

A 41-year-old Levin woman appeared in the Levin District Court this afternoon charged with assault. She has been remanded in custody until 19 July.

A second local person, a man, is also sought in relation to the incident which happened at a house between 5am and 5.30am today.

Police have yet to find the man but say they’re making good progress with the investigation.

Forensic specialists have throughout the day been examining a property on the main highway south of Levin. This examination is expected to be finished overnight. The scene examination at a Levin service station forecourt where the wounded man was able to drive himself to has been completed and the business was able to resume trading this afternoon.

“There’s a substantial amount of inquiry work we have to do to find out more about what happened and why, including speaking with the victim once he is well enough,” Detective Sergeant Paroli said.
