New Zealand’s smallest fundraiser took to the streets of Auckland early this week raising funds in support of Auckland City Mission’s Winter Appeal.

Named ‘Kenneth’, this flightless, robotic, bird-like fundraiser stands just 30cm tall. Powered by batteries and operated by remote control, Kenneth has been travelling Auckland pulling behind him a small red trolley collecting donations.

Complete with social media profiles and GPS tracking, Kenneth is proving to be a big hit.

‘The issues we deal with at the Auckland City Mission are complex and serious,’ says City Missioner, Diane Robertson, ‘and at this time of year things are even tougher. But we all need a little light in our lives every now and then and Kenneth is a fun way to ask people to contribute to those in our city who are most in need’

‘Kenneth gives people something to smile at as they make their donation - rather than asking them to give because they feel guilty or uncomfortable,’ she said. ‘We make a conscious choice not to use expensive merchandise but we do like to give our donors something back – even if it’s just a smile.’

Kenneth is the brainchild of Publicis Mojo who have been providing pro-bono advertising support to the Auckland City Mission for 15 years. His theme tune, ‘Big Bird in a Small Cage’ was donated by Canadian musician Patrick Watson.
