A man will appear in the Masterton District Court later today facing charges in relation to alleged offending over the weekend, after Wairarapa Police executed a search warrant at an Olive Street address early this morning.

The Police Armed Offenders Squad was used due to a concern relating to the possibility of firearms being present.

The 32 year old man is facing charges of attempted aggravated robbery, demanding with menace and burglary.

Acting Wairarapa Area Commander, Detective Inspector Paul Basham says, "the police investigation into the alleged activities of the offender and his associates is continuing and further charges are likely."

Paul Basham says Wairarapa Police have previously stated that they will act robustly where individuals or groups commit offences that involve stand-over tactics or 'taxing', as this type of crime is commonly referred to, when linked with organised crime groups or gangs.

"We have a low tolerance for any type of alleged criminal activity linked to organised crime and we will act decisively to hold those responsible to account."
