WELLINGTON

Police across the Wellington District are looking for the owners of some jewellery, believed to have been stolen in recent burglaries.

Detective Andy Compton of the Wellington CIB says a gold buying merchant contacted Police recently after purchasing an amount of jewellery from a person, which included women's rings, bracelets and earrings.

"The merchant became suspicious after discovering a number of the pieces were engraved and so contacted Police."

Detective Compton says at this stage, Police have been unable to identify the owners of these items of jewellery but believe they have been stolen in burglaries across the District in recent times, given the fact that many of the pieces have distinctive engravings such as wedding bands with the date engraved.

Police are keen to return the jewellery to its rightful owners and urge anyone who may recognise any of the jewellery in the attached photos to contact Detective Andy Compton of the Wellington CIB on (04) 381 2000.
