Police Search and Rescue staff and Garden City Helicopters today (25/07/11) uplifted 2 persons overdue on a tramping trip in the Craigieburn area.

The pair had gone into the Craigieburn area on Wednesday 20 July and were due out on Friday 22nd July, but were caught out by the bad weather.

Incident controller, Sergeant Craig PRIOR, praised the pair for doing all the right things to ensure their own safety.

"This is a classic example of how incidents like this can be resolved successfully, due to the missing party observing the cardinal rules of backcountry travel. First, they let others know where they were going. They took the correct equipment and more than adequate food with them. There were experienced and when they got in to trouble, they stayed put and waited for help or for the weather to clear rather than wandering off. This is the way to stay safe in the backcountry and ensure you own survival".
