Variety – The Children’s Charity and Solid Gold FM have teamed up again this year for the Solid Gold Radiothon, aiming to better last year’s tally of $50,000 to help create brighter futures for Kiwi kids.

The Solid Gold Radiothon for Variety will be on air from Friday August 12 – Sunday August 14, and we are asking Kiwis to show their support and give generously.

Donations will go towards Variety’s Kids on the Move programme to get kids moving and provide them with the independence and mobility equipment they so desperately need.

During the Radiothon weekend Solid Gold DJs will be joined in studio and on the pledge lines by celebrities including Ewen Gilmour, Mark Wright, Simon Dallow, Shane Cortese, Frankie Stevens, Tom Sharplin, Antonia Prebble, Jared Turner, Phillip Leishman, Bryan and Bobby of the Bryan and Bobby Show, Leighton Cardno and Shortland Street stars.

There will also be a fantastic array of charity auction items on Trade Me from 5 – 14 August at www.trademe.co.nz/variety. Unique items include five nights for two at The Lofts Apartments in Queenstown, a limited edition Grahame Sydney print, a set visit and walk on part in The Almighty Johnsons, lunch with foodie Julie Le Clerc, tickets to Toast Martinborough and accommodation at Copthorne Solway Park Masterton, an Auckland bridge climb with Kiwi actress Antonia Prebble and a hot lap with Shane van Gisbergen in his winning V8 supercar at Hampton Downs.

On Saturday and Sunday, Solid Gold offices around the country will be holding BBQ & Busking community events in 19 towns with sausage sizzles and kids’ busking zones. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a Variety Radiothon Raffle to win a trip for two to Rarotonga worth $3,425.

“Whether it’s making a donation, bidding on one of our fantastic Trade Me auction items, attending the Solid Gold local community events or buying a raffle ticket, there are so many fun ways people can get involved to help Variety and the children of New Zealand during the Solid Gold Radiothon,” says Lorraine Taylor, CEO of Variety. “We hope that everyone will tune into Solid Gold during the weekend and be a part of this year’s Radiothon.

“Money will be used to buy specialised bikes, trikes and trampolines for children with physical restrictions and bikes for deserving Kiwi kids. The difference that this makes in the lives of these children is enormous, as they are able to take part in fun family outings and bike rides, often for the very first time.”
