PureBlack Racing to race world's best at Tour of Utah

AUCKLAND

PureBlack Racing’s strong performance in their debut US season has earned them an invitation to next week’s 2011 Tour of Utah. Deemed America’s Toughest Stage Race, The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah will be the final race for PureBlack Racing in the US this year. The 409 mile race, a UCI 2.1 sanctioned stage race for the best professional cyclists in the world, runs August 9-14.

“This is our biggest race to date. PureBlack Racing will be going head to head with top Pro Tour teams including HTC Highroad, Radioshack, Garmin Cervelo and Cadel Evans team BMC. A number of the Tour de France riders will also be racing. It’s a really important race for the team,” says Carl Williams, Sports Director of PureBlack Racing.

New Zealand’s PureBlack Racing is one of 16 professional cycling teams in the field, which includes 10 teams registered in the United States, as well as teams from Canada, Colombia, Italy, Great Britain and Spain. Five of these teams including HTC, Radioshack, Garmin Cervelo and Cadel Evans BMC team have just competed in the Tour de France. A total of 120 riders from 20 countries make up the star-studded field.

The PureBlack Racing team is Glen Chadwick, Tim Gudsell, Dan Barry, Louis Crosby, Mike Northey, Scott Lyttle, Roman Van Uden and Mark Langlands.

PureBlack Racing’s Business Director Greg Cross says, “The team has taken the US racing scene by storm this year. Over the past five months the entire team has worked incredibly hard and has built a reputation as one of the most aggressive teams and one to really watch. We’re looking forward to ending the way we started, with a strong showing at Utah.”
