High winds hit Canterbury - bring power lines down

CANTERBURY

Police have received several reports of high winds in the South/Central Canterbury areas.

Power lines are down in Hinds and Ashburton, a caravan has been flipped over on State Highway south of Hinds.

(nil Injury or road blockage,a roof has been lifted off a house at Oxford, numerous trees have had branches broken off.

Motorists are warned to take care and if necessary stop and wait for the winds to abate before travelling on. This especially applies to those motorists towing trailers or caravans.

There is no immediate danger to the public but care and common sense is required.
