CANTERBURY

On Friday the 19th August during the evening, a Controlled Purchase Operation (CPO) was completed in the Mid Canterbury area, targeting premises with an Off License. (eg: Bottle Stores etc)

Eleven premises in total were visited covering both rural and urban areas.

Of the eleven premises visited, one premise sold to the volunteers.

Senior Sergeant RUSSELL, Ashburton Police said while the overall results were very encouraging, it was disappointing that one premise had failed.

This premise will be dealt with by way of prosecution.

With this operation, the volunteers enters the Bottle store or Supermarket and attempts to purchase alcohol. The volunteers are always under eighteen years of age.

Each premise that passed would receive a letter advising them of the good result.

The Operation is run in conjunction with the Public Health (ACADS) and Police.

Should there be any further enquires please contact S/Sgt Russell, Ashburton Police.
