Serious crash on Waikato Expressway State Highway 1

A car crash on State Highway 1 at the Waikato Expressway has left 2 people dead.

The crash occurred at about 10.45 this morning, and involved a car travelling in the southbound lane colliding with another vehicle. The Police Serious Crash Unit is at the scene and is investigating what lead to the crash.

Details of the 2 dead people are not available for media at this stage.

One southbound lane has now been opened for traffic, but motorists should still expect delays if travelling in that area.

Police wish to hear from any witnesses to the crash, and who have not already spoken to police at the scene.
