The Fanzone in North Hagley Park opened at 9am this morning and Christchurch City Council is encouraging people to come down and check out The Stadium and the Nostalgia Lounges in The MasterCard Ruck.

Christchurch City Council Marketing Manager Richard Stokes says, "It's a great day and the Fanzone is looking awesome. Come down with some mates after work and watch the first live match, New Zealand v Tonga at 8:30pm.

"We've already had a classroom of kids through the Nostalgia Lounges this morning, so it's great to see it come to life after so much hard work has gone into setting everything up."

The Opening Ceremony in Auckland will be shown on the large screens live at 7:30pm. Local band 'The Swarm' will be playing on the stage from 5:30pm and the NZAB Big Band and Dance Band will follow between 6pm and 7pm. The marching band will also be performing on the Rugby field between 6pm and 7pm.

People should allow plenty of travel and parking time, bring warm jackets, a blanket to sit on and some cash for the bar and food stalls.
