Julian Bartrom comes home victorious as one of four finalists in New Zealands most prestgious Jewellery Design Competition 2011.

On returning from a weekend at The New Zealand Jewellery Show in Wellington Julian Bartrom comes home victorious as one of four finalists in The New Zealand Jewellery Design Competition 2011.

Bartrom’s creation Le Dragonfly en Tremblant brooch was inspired from the Art Nouveau period. The wings are mounted on a gold spring and given the slightest movement will tremble as if to fly. It is entirely hand made in 18ct Gold and set with Blue topaz, Peridot, Green, Blue and Pink Tourmaline, Ceylonese Sapphires and 93 Brilliant-cut Diamonds.

Julian is “over the moon” to have been placed in New Zealand’s most prestigious jewellery design award and is looking forward to taking part in it again next year.

With a childhood full of Lego and balsa wood modeling Julian’s creativity came naturally when applied to the art of fine jewellery. “What more could someone want than to create objects of beauty with precious metals and gems,” Julian says. He is very grateful for the 3 years of intensive training at the Peter Minturn Goldsmith School and to have become part of such a talented and encouraging industry. Julian is continuing his education with the Gemology Institute of America.

Now from an Ellerslie studio Julian Bartrom (aged 24) is commissioned to make jewellery for a diverse and greatly appreciative clientele.

On Saturday 17th September between 12 - 4pm a viewing of “Le Dragonfly en Tremblant” will be held at The Antique Shop 101 Main Highway, Ellerslie Village.
