Australian software developer MetroView has just launched Metroview NZ City GPS Navigation, a car navigation application for iPhone and iPad in New Zealand. In what is believed to be a world first, this application allows users to purchase full car navigation for a single City or Region in New Zealand, rather than purchasing navigation for the entire country, which may still be done as an in app purchase. It also includes a rich range of Rugby based Points of Interest (POI).

Utilising the latest (September 2011) premium GeoSmart map data the application sells for only NZ$9.95. The map data includes the latest changes such as the new Auckland Upper Harbour Motorway (SH18) motorway and many other updates around New Zealand.

As part of this special release, the application includes many rugby focussed Points of interest including Fan Zones, REAL NZ Festival Sites, Stadiums, Rugby Training Venues and Temporary Accommodation sites e.g. for campervans.

“MetroView has over 100,000 navigation clients,” according to CEO Mike Dell, “and is regularly the number 1 navigation app on the iPhone Australian app store with the highest feedback rating 4.5/5 stars. The timing was right to launch this application in New Zealand first.”
