MARLBOROUGH

While the Russian rugby team have been training hard for their upcoming games in the Rugby World Cup 2011 tournament, they've also taken time out to enjoy our local hospitality, including being formally welcomed at the Omaka Marae, and spending time meeting local fans.

They've also checked out some of Marlborough's special attractions such as the Omaka Aviation Heritage Museum and the Marlborough Sounds, and have left their mark on Marlborough by taking part in a special Tui to Town planting, working alongside locals on the Taylor river bank. Fifteen of the trees planted were birches, a species widely grown in Russian forests and chosen to commemorate the team's visit to Marlborough.
