Murder charge to be laid in Spreydon death

A 54 year old man will appear in the Rangiora District Court this morning charged with murder, in relation to a suspicious death in Spreydon yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Murton of the Christchurch Police says the investigation into the death of a 47 year old woman at the Cobham Street address is being treated as a homicide.

The scene examination of the property continues this morning with ESR scientists and Police at the scene.

It is expected that they will remain at the scene for the next few days. A post mortem will be carried out later this week.

Detective Senior Sergeant Murton says the identity of the victim will not be released until notification of next of kin is complete.
