Hamilton Prepares For Last Rugby World Cup Match

Extra bus services, entertainment in the Fanzone and a Community Day of family fun – it’s all lined up for Sunday, when Hamilton hosts its last Rugby World Cup 2011 match.

Wales tackle Fiji in the last Pool D match at Waikato Stadium at 6pm, and about 2,500 tickets for the match are still available. Patrons attending the match are again being urged to use the Rugby Shuttles running from the CBD to the stadium, or park their cars early and walk to the venue.

Several city parking buildings are open for extended hours, while extra buses operating on urban routes will leave from Hamilton Transport Centre after the match.

Hamilton’s Fanzone will be operating from 1.30pm, with a Zumba session and a performance from local band Four Tonne Fiasco, as well the All Blacks clash with
Canada and the Wales vs Fiji featuring on the big screen. The city’s third and final Community Day will be held in Garden Place, with live entertainment – including a Welsh dance troupe – and various family-friendly activities from 10am to 2pm.

New Zealand Transport Authority is also encouraging visitors to Hamilton for the match to travel early to avoid traffic congestion on State Highways leading into the city.

“Hamilton has a reputation for being a party spot and we have really turned it on for the tournament. The atmosphere in the Fanzone has been amazing and there is so much happening before and after the game. We have an ice skating rink set up with lots of fun stuff for families going on around it in Garden Place, right in the centre of our city,” Mayor Julie Hardaker says.
