World Cup operation in Central District concludes

The Central District phase of the Rugby World Cup concluded this afternoon when Argentina won their pool challenge against Georgia in Palmerston North.

The game brings to an end a month-long policing operation which has been two years in the planning and saw the District host eight teams and five games.

Central District Police Commander, Superintendent Russell Gibson: "It's been a superb opportunity for my staff to work alongside people from a multitude of cultures. They have embraced the opportunity and made me and the police service of New Zealand proud.

"It is also important to acknowledge the local communities who have adopted teams and turned out in force to cheer them on. This heartfelt support has helped the policing operation to run smoothly and has really showcased New Zealand as a friendly and hospitable country."

Today's game once again saw a spirited and good natured crowd at Arena Manawatu. There were two evictions, one for disorderly behaviour and one for intoxication, but no arrests.

Police also located and repatriated two children and one IHC individual.

St John treated two people at the ground for minor issues.
