Old Taupo Road, Tokoroa - Fatal Accident

At about 7.51pm this evening (October 3) a vehicle lost control on Old Taupo Road near the Kinleith Paper Mill, Tokoroa.

The vehicle left the road.

As the driver attempted to regain control the vehicle re-entered the road and collided head on with a logging truck heading in the opposite direction.

A young man, a passenger of the vehicle was critically injured and subsequently died at the scene.

Three other occupants of the vehicle also received injuries and have been taken to hospital.

Initial scene examination indicates that speed was a factor in the crash.

No further comment will be made until after next of kin have been informed and the serious crash unit has completed their examination.
