Thousands of Aucklanders and visitors expected at the Kiwi Day Out in the Auckland Domain, on Labour Day, can help restore the lustre of a Hauraki Gulf jewel in Auckland’s front yard.

Volunteers will be shaking buckets at the free family day and concert, on 24 October, to raise money for the Motutapu Restoration Trust.

Trust Chairperson Christine Fletcher, says the Trust is excited to be involved in Kiwi Day Out, which is the closing event of the Real New Zealand festival and features some of New Zealand’s most loved musicians as part of The Fonterra Shout which concludes the event.

“The Motutapu Restoration Trust works to restore the cultural and natural landscapes of the pest-free island, providing a safe haven for native wildlife to thrive.

“Our efforts depend on the support of our volunteers, sponsors and partners and every dollar raised helps us restore the health of Motutapu Island, and keep it predator free, so we’re excited to be working with Fonterra and Kiwi Day Out organiser SMC Events,” Christine says.

Kelvin Wickham, Group Director External and Supplier Relations at Fonterra, says the Motutapu Restoration Trust is a great cause to receive the day’s donations, and the Hauraki Gulf island will provide a stunning backdrop for The Kiwi Day Out.

“Motutapu Island is a jewel in Auckland’s front yard and one that must be cared for and restored. We hope the funds raised on the day can help the Trust in their work to maintain a piece of land that has such environmental and historical significance, and we hope Kiwis will give generously on the day,” says Mr Wickham.

Fonterra is holding ‘shouts’ at six venues throughout New Zealand this Labour Day to thank the many people and communities who have helped the Co-op during its first ten years. Each Fonterra Shout will include a gold coin donation for a great cause in each region.

The charities include North Haven Hospice, Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance, Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust, Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter, St John, and Children’s Ward at Southland Hospital. The donations made at each event will contribute to the future successes of these not-for-profit organisations that dedicate their time to helping others.

Kiwi Day Out promises to be a great family day out for everyone who wants to come along for the entertainment, headline acts, and ice cream treats.
