WELLINGTON

The champagne will be flowing as Wellington’s iconic Boulcott Street Bistro celebrates two decades of hospitality this month.

On the 30th of October 1991, John Lawrence and Chris Green took on the lease of the historic Plimmer House. Green clearly recalls the day, 20 years ago, when he and Lawrence decided on the location for their new restaurant.

“I’d heard of Plimmer House but had never been. We went to look at it and there it was, this little dolls house sitting among the high rises,” Green says.

With ambition and a lot of hard work they created the warm and welcoming gourmet bistro that’s become a much loved destination on Wellington’s culinary map.

Green, who has since opened Arbitrageur, won’t be missing the restaurant’s milestone as he joins chef/partner Rex Morgan (Citron) to celebrate the Bistro’s longevity and success with a retrospective menu.

“Boulcott has always maintained a contemporary edge and we wanted to serve selection favourite dishes from the past two decades that also highlight the changes and trends in the food industry. It’s a great opportunity to experience that culinary journey,” Morgan says.

John Lawrence says he is looking forward to celebrating with neighbours, friends and family throughout the week.

“There’ll be a few gatherings, get-togethers and no doubt the odd trip down memory lane.

“It’s been a great twenty years; the support from the community is heart warming and we’ve made a lot of good friends. Here’s to the next twenty,” Lawrence says.

The retrospective menu will be available from October 30th – November 5th
